Nearly 66% of fourth- and eighth-grade learners perform below proficient achievement levels in reading. For students grades 4 and beyond who struggle with reading, the path ahead can be difficult and discouraging. For striving readers, newcomers, and students with special needs, we can do more and do it better. And that’s the focus of this edWebinar.

Watch as Dr. Jennifer Bishop, a nationally recognized literacy specialist whose doctoral work emphasized secondary literacy interventions, explores the importance of foundational literacy instruction for students grades 4+. She showcases the crucial role of technology-enabled solutions to accelerate learning for these students, and viewers learn about strategies for independent, competency-based learning. As part of this session, Dr. Bishop covers how upper elementary and secondary-level educators can use assessment-driven, explicit phonics instruction that’s both based on reading science and is age appropriate to meet learners where they are, helping them accelerate as fluent, confident readers. Bring your questions, share your challenges and successes, and walk away with practical, productive ways to support your striving readers in school and beyond.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to teachers, librarians, school and district leaders, education technology leaders, and curriculum leaders of grades 4 and up.
